Recipe For Pears And Ginger In Wine Syrup

Ingredients:

2 or 4 pears, depending on size
(look for the ripe unblemishable fruit)
piece of fresh juice ginger
2 tablespoon honey
Juice of 1 orange
250ml (8floz) red wine
grated tutmeg.

Method:

Peel the pears with a potato peeler and place them in a heavy saucepan. Peel the ginger, shave off thin slices with the potato peeler and lay them among the pears. Mix honey with the orange juice and the red wine. Pour over the fruit, sprinkle with nutmeg. cover and poach gently for 20 minutes.
