We all pray to God everyday and every moment, because we know how to communicate with God through prayers. Among many prayers, thanksgiving prayer to God is the best prayer that brings God’s abundant blessings in one’s life. The secret is that when we give thanks to God in our prayer, it becomes God’s favored one. There are different types of prayers that we normally recite according to our needs and circumstances. The Prayer of faith, the prayer of agreement (also known as corporate prayer), the prayer of request (or supplication), the prayer of thanksgiving, the prayer of worship, the prayer of consecration, the prayer of intercession and the prayer of imprecation. As far as my concern we are often taught to pray when we are in need and when we are satisfied with our needs then we just forget about all that we have received or not.
“When you focus on being a blessing, God makes sure that you are always blessed in abundance.”
~ Joel Osteen
My concern and intention are to write this article here is to emphasize and to motivate that we need to give priority to thanksgiving prayer to God. What is the secret behind the thanksgiving prayer? “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”. Matthew 6:33. When you thank God in prayer every time, then God loves you so much that he wants to bless you abundantly. This is the secret of thanksgiving prayer.
“Life in abundance comes only through great love.”
~ Elbert Hubbard
When we often pray for our intentions and petitions without our knowledge our minds and hearts become more selfish that we only care for our needs. This kind of selfish negative vibrations in prayer become the stumbling block in receiving God’s blessings
Even though there are different types and levels of prayers I advise you to concentrate on thanksgiving prayer as much as possible. In your thanksgiving prayer even though you do not mentions your petitions, you will receive what you want, because the simple reason is that when you thank your God, then your God himself is pleased by your beautiful heart and words of your gratitudes.
The life of King Davis is one of the best examples for all of us to ponder over it. King David had received lots of favours from God, it is not because of his petitions and righteousness, but because of his thankfulness to God always and everywhere. We have never seen in the Bible that king David asked God for favour, rather he always thanks God for his mercifulness to him and to his family
His experiences with God could be seen in his words in the psalm 127: 1-4.
1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves.
We all normally think that God loves us always. It is true that by the very nature of God, he loves everyone. Though it is the very nature of God that he loves us always. right at the moment we should ask he question that does God loves me? That is the very fundamental question that we need to understand to understand God’s love for us. And at the same time we should not presume that God loves at at any conditions. God loves king David because king David loves to follow his commandments with thanksgiving. It is mentioned in his instruction to his son Solomon. 1 King 2: 1-5
2 When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.
2 “I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, 3 and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go 4 and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’
If you follow his commandments with your full heart and mind, then your God will begin to love you with abundant blessings. He shows his blessing not only to you but to your children and to the children of the children.
Finally I would like to underline that the best character of king david is that he gives thanks to his almighty God all the time. His attitude of thanksgiving becomes the source of abundant blessings from God.
1 Chronicles 17:16-20
David’s Thanksgiving Prayer
16 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said:
“Who am I, Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 17 And as if this were not enough in your sight, my God, you have spoken about the future of the house of your servant. You, Lord God, have looked on me as though I were the most exalted of men.
18 “What more can David say to you for honoring your servant? For you know your servant, 19 Lord. For the sake of your servant and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made known all these great promises.
What we learn from the life of king David is that the more we praise and thank our God, the more we get his favour as the abundant blessings from him.
Therefore learn the secret of saying thanks the Lord always for his goodness in your life and as the result of it, for your amazement, you will continue to receive more blessings in your future life.
